International Student Counselling in Ontario
UnfoldVoices Counselling offers online therapy in Ontario for international students navigating cultural identity shifts, belonging, and emotional expression across languages and expectations.
As a Registered Social Worker (RSW), I provide psychotherapy in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, supporting students who may appear high-achieving on the outside, yet feel internally overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of who they are becoming.
Identity, Belonging, and Emotional Expression
Many international students carry more than academic pressure. They move between cultures, languages, and roles — translating not only words, but expectations.
You may be:
-
The “responsible one” in your family
-
The first to study abroad
-
High-achieving but emotionally exhausted
-
Struggling to express feelings in your first or second language
-
Unsure where you belong — here or back home
Therapy offers a space where your cultural background does not need explanation before it is understood.
Academic Pressure & Adjustment Stress
Alongside identity shifts, many international students also experience:
-
Performance anxiety
-
Burnout
-
Language fatigue
-
Homesickness
-
Fear of disappointing family
-
Pressure to “stay strong”
When stress accumulates quietly, it can begin to feel like emotional numbness, overwhelm, or constant tension.
A Culturally Attuned Approach
My work integrates Emotion-Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy, helping you:
-
Make sense of your emotional patterns
-
Reconnect with parts of yourself that were silenced
-
Understand the stories you have carried about achievement and worth
-
Slowly expand your capacity to feel, express, and choose differently
This is not a space to “fix” you. It is a space to unfold.
